Psychiatric Nursing
- Mental Health Nursing is designed for developing an understanding of modern concepts of mental health, identification; prevention and nursing management of common mental health problems and making the student function effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary mental health team.
- The essential features of this practice experience include skills and competency development, scope of practice for psychiatric and mental health nursing, professional communication skills, and therapeutic use of self.
- The Department organizes various programs aimed at enabling the students to identify the mental health needs and problems of their clients and to acquire skill in providing comprehensive health care to them.
- The students get enriched clinical experience from mental health centres and observational visits to psychiatric rehabilitation centres, special schools for the mentally retarded, and children with physical and psychological disabilities, de-addiction centres, orphanages and old age homes.
- The department also offers counselling services for students having psychological and adjustment problems.
